Extension of Project Matching Period to 6 May

Dear Students,

Final Year Project (FYP): Extension of Matching Period to 6 May 2016

After the close of project matching in April, the FYP Infonet has now been reopened to supervisors for uploading more projects until 6 May 2016 (this Friday) at 5:00p.m.. Not many new projects are expected but it provides a good and last opportunity for those who have not yet matched with any projects.

Students who already got a project in last matching round are not allowed to make change to their projects.

EE Project Competition 2016

To: EE FYP Supervisors / Assessors, All Final Year Project Students

 

The annual EE Project Competition 2016 will be held on 2 June 2016 (Thur) after the Semester B Examination.  Students are encouraged to join the competition by returning the completed enrolment form to P1624 on or before 18 May 2016 (Wed).  Participants will be short-listed based on supervisors' and assessors' recommendation.  Meanwhile supervisors and assessors will also be invited to recommend students to join the competition after marking the project reports.  Please note that nominations of various scholarships and awards related to Final Year Project (details attached) will NORMALLY be selected from the projects shortlisted for EE Project Competition.  Details of the competition are given below:

Objectives:
1) To promote the quality of student projects and strengthen winning students' resume.
2) To enhance students' presentation skills
3) To cultivate a positive learning atmosphere and uphold the good tradition of the Department

Judging Criteria:
All entrants will be judged based on the merit of the projects and their presentation skills. There will be two rounds, a qualifying, that will be judged by a panel of EE academic staff, and a final. Winners of the qualifying round will be selected to proceed to the final that will be judged by 3 academic staff from the EE department.

Final Year Project Presentation Schedule for Sem B, 2015/16

To: All Final Year Project Students completing projects in Sem B, 2015/16

 

Please be informed that the FYP Presentation Schedule has been uploaded to the FYP InfoNet.  For details, please click http://proj.ee.cityu.edu.hk/eefyp/student/stindex.php.  All students are required to note the time and venue for their assigned presentation sessions and arrive the presentation venue at least 15 minutes before the commencement of the session.  Students who need to download files should preferably arrive 30 minutes before the session starts.  Please be reminded that presentation is an essential element in FYP assessment.  Students not delivering final presentation cannot pass the project course.

Please note that the following facilities are available to students during Final Year Project Presentation in Week 12 (11 – 15 April 2016):

- Microsoft Office 2013 Professional

FYP Report - Plagiarism Check before hard copy submission on 22 April 2016

To: All Final Year Project Students (projects to be presented in Sem B, 2015/16)

 

At this stage, most of you should be preparing the project reports for submission on 22 April 2016 (Fri).  You must refrain from plagiarism, i.e. failure to properly acknowledge the use of another person's work.  Students who have committed plagiarism will be subjected to penalty that includes lowering of grade, course failure, or even termination of study.  In 2008/09, a student was terminated by the University as a result of committing a serious act of academic dishonesty by plagiarizing others' work from the internet in her FYP report.

Important Reminders for Plagiarism Check/ Softcopy/ Hardcopy Report Submission

  1. To help you and your supervisor identify texts copied without acknowledgement, all students MUST submit your reports to the Turnitin System for checking on or before 19 April 2016 (Tue).
  1. The Turnitin Originality Report may require days to generate. Its printout should be attached to your Project Report in hard copy submitted to the General Office on 22 April 2016 (Fri).  
  1. All softcopy submissions should be done online via your CityU's Canvas under 'Assignment'. You are required to submit your report in PDF format for department's record and assessment. Similarity index of your report will be generated on the system with your PDF submission.  The system is accessible starting from 5 April 2016 at 9:00am.  Students failing to submit PDF format to the Canvas by 19 April 2016 will be subjected to penalty that includes lowering of grade or course failure.
  1. The Turnitin Originality Report will show the Overall Similarity Index and the related copied texts (without acknowledgement) found in your reports, facilitating the supervisors’ and assessors’ judgment on whether you have committed plagiarism. Though unlimited submissions are acceptable by the Turnitin system, please be mindful of the deadline set to 19 April 2016.

Final year project students completing their final year projects in Sem B, 2015/16 are requested to note the following for immediate actions:

   1.    Confirmation of Final Year Project (FYP) title on or before 11 March 2016 (Friday)
            (WEB site open from 7 March 2016 at 5:00 pm to 11 March 2016 at 4:00pm)

   2.    Upload the FYP abstracts to the FYP InfoNet on or before 25 March 2016 (Friday)

The FYP Presentation will be held from 11 - 15 April 2016 (Monday to Friday).  Your presentation schedule will be available by the end of Week 10.

Final Year Project (FYP): Registration and Selection

To: All Undergraduate Students

 

Eligible EE undergraduate students who wish to start EE4181/  EE4281/  EE4381 / EE4182 / EE4282 / EE4382, the Final Year Project (FYP), in Semester A (or Semester B), 2016/17 MUST read the following message carefully and refer to the project allocation section in The Guidelines for Final Year Project .


A.  PRE-REGISTRATION PERIOD (29 February 2016, 5:00pm - 11 March 2016, 5:00pm)

Both full-time and part-time students wishing to take the FYP in Semester A (or Semester B), 2016/17 MUST pre-register their FYP between 29 February - 11 March 2016. Those without prior project pre-registration will NOT be allocated a project.  Please take the following steps:

     Click Final Year Project leading you to the Student InfoNet
     Click FYP Pre-registration, enter your student name, student number and programme code

Pre-registration of FYP will then be done by the Academic Regulations and Records Office.


B.  WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE FYP IN 2016/17? 

Pre-requisites for students to start Final Year Project in Semester A, 2016/17 (or #Semester B, 2016/17)
#: applicable to students starting FYP in Semester B, 2016/17

EE4181 / EE4281 / EE4381
Undergraduate students (for 2010 cohort and before) having earned 43 CUs of Level 2 or above core/technical elective courses by the end of Sem B, 2015/16(or # Sem A, 2016/17) (excluding language courses, CCIV, OOD and GE courses).

EE4182 / EE4282 / EE4382
-BENG4 students having earned 54 CUs of the major requirement, college requirement, and college-specified courses by the end of Sem B, 2015/16 (or # Sem A, 2016/17) (excluding gateway education and language requirement courses).
-BENG3 students having earned *39 CUs of the major requirement by the end of Sem B, 2015/16 (or # Sem A, 2016/17) (excluding gateway education and language requirement courses).
-BENG2 students having earned *36 CUs of the major requirement by the end of Sem B, 2015/16 (or # Sem A, 2016/17) (excluding gateway education and language requirement courses).
*Credits of exempted courses are counted regardless of the completion time of replacement courses


C.  WHO ELSE ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER THIS ROUND? 
Industrial Placement Scheme (IPS) Students
Students engaged in IPS and will start your project in 2016/17 should complete the pre-registration for your FYP. For allocation details, you will be informed by the IPS Coordinator at a later stage.

Advanced Standing (AS) Students
ASI/II students who plan to start your FYP in 2016/17 are also required to complete your FYP pre-registration process.


D.  FYP MATCHING AND ALLOCATION SCHEDULE

E.  BRIEFING SESSION

A briefing session with Q&Awill be held for students who want to start their projects in Semester A (or Semester B), 2016/17.  Details are as follows:

Students are encouraged to propose their own projects to Programme Leaders and be approved by the end of week 9 (18 March 2016). Guidelines and Proposal Form for Student-Proposed Projects can be downloaded from the InfoNet.

Week 9-11
EE Academic staff will be asked to input around 5 - 6 projects for students in the FYP Student InfoNet.

Week 12-13 (10-day period)
Free matching
Both staff and students may view the consolidated project list in FYP InfoNet and approach each other for 'Matching Projects'.

Project Allocation by Lottery
Students who cannot match a project with an academic staff are required to attend the project allocation session. During the session, students will draw lots to determine their order in the selection of available projects.

Furthermore, it is expected that more awards and scholarships related to FYP might be announced at a later stage when details are confirmed by the donors. In 2014-15, we had a total of six different awards and scholarships related to FYP.

Submission of Final Year Project Planning Chart and Progress Report

To: All Final Year Project Students starting FYP in Sem B, 2015/16

 

Please be informed that all students taking the final year project starting from Sem B, 2015/16 must submit a project planning chart and a progress report to their supervisors:

(i)  a Project Planning Chart submitted to supervisor by Week 4 of Semester B, 2015/16, and
(ii) a Progress Report uploaded on FYP InfoNet on or before 15 April 2016 by 5:00pm (Week 12 of Semester B, 2015/16).

Submission of Progress Report

All students should not submit the reports to their supervisors directly and must upload their Progress Reports on FYP InfoNet on or before 15 April 2016 by 5:00pmOne sub-grade deduction from overall per day will apply upon late submission.  The submission date on FYP InfoNet is crucial for deduction of marks. If students fail to upload their Progress Report to FYP InfoNet, they will receive zero mark. Also, please note that presentation has to be performed alongside the submission of Progress Report, demonstrating the accomplishments obtained by students as of the first semester of FYP.

The Project Planning Chart and Progress Report are attached HERE.  Your supervisor will assess your project taking into account on your performance in these aspects.

Final Year Project Presentation Schedule for Sem A, 2015/16

To: All Final Year Project Students completing projects in Sem A, 2015/16

 

Please be informed that the FYP Presentation Schedule has been uploaded to the FYP InfoNet.  For details, please click http://proj.ee.cityu.edu.hk/eefyp/student/stindex.php.  All students are required to note the time and venue for their assigned presentation sessions and arrive the presentation venue at least 15 minutes before the commencement of the session.  Students who need to download files should preferably arrive 30 minutes before the session starts.  Please be reminded that presentation is an essential element in FYP assessment.  Students not delivering final presentation cannot pass the project course.

Please note that the following facilities are available to students during Final Year Project Presentation in Week 12 (18 – 20 November 2015):
- Computer / Notebook with CD ROM Drive
- LCD Projector
- Microsoft Office 2010 Professional
- Adobe Reader XI
- Windows Media Player

Note:
- Students are not advised to download massive presentation materials through Internet during sessions. Network performance cannot be guaranteed all the time.
- Provision of other AV equipment not mentioned above is not guaranteed.

FYP Report - Plagiarism Check before hard copy submission on 27 November 2015

Dear Students,

FYP Report - Plagiarism Check before hard copy submission on 27 November 2015

At this stage, most of you should be preparing the project reports for submission on 27 November 2015 (Fri).  You must refrain from plagiarism, i.e. failure to properly acknowledge the use of another person's work.  Students who have committed plagiarism will be subjected to penalty that includes lowering of grade, course failure, or even termination of study.  In 2008/09, a student was terminated by the University as a result of committing a serious act of academic dishonesty by plagiarizing others' work from the internet in her FYP report.

Important Reminders for Plagiarism Check/ Softcopy/ Hardcopy Report Submission

  1. To help you and your supervisor identify texts copied without acknowledgement, all students MUST submit your reports to the Turnitin System for checking on or before 24 November 2015 (Tue).
  1. The Turnitin Originality Report may require days to generate. Its printout should be attached to your Project Report in hard copy submitted to the General Office on 27 November 2015 (Fri).  
  1. All softcopy submissions should be done online via your CityU’s Canvas under “Assignment”. You are required to submit your report in PDF format for department’s record and assessment. Similarity index of your report will be generated on the system with your PDF submission.  The system is accessible starting from 10 November 2015 at 9:00am.  Students failing to submit PDF format to the Canvas by 24 November 2015 will be subjected to penalty that includes lowering of grade or course failure.
  1. The Turnitin Originality Report will show the Overall Similarity Index and the related copied texts (without acknowledgement) found in your reports, facilitating the supervisors’ and assessors’ judgment on whether you have committed plagiarism. Though unlimited submissions are acceptable by the Turnitin system, please be mindful of the deadline set to 24 November 2015.

Final Year Project Schedule in Sem A, 2015/16

To: All FYP students completing FYP in Sem A, 2015/16

 

Final year project students completing their final year projects in Sem A, 2015/16 are requested to note the following for immediate actions:

   1.    Confirmation of Final Year Project (FYP) title on or before 23 October 2015 (Friday)
            (WEB site open from 19 October 2015 at 5:00 pm to 23 October 2015 at 4:00pm)

   2.    Upload the FYP abstracts to the FYP InfoNet on or before 6 November 2015 (Friday)
            (WEB site open from 19 October 2015 at 5:00 pm to 6 November 2015 at 4:00pm)

The FYP Presentation will be held from 16 - 20 November 2015 (Monday to Friday).  Your presentation schedule will be available by the end of Week 10.

Submission of FYP reports
- Two hard copies to General Office (G6302) on 27 November 2015 (Friday)
- Soft copy submitted through Canvas in PDF format on or before 24 November 2015
