FYP Report - Plagiarism Check before hard copy submission on 25 April 2014

To: All Final Year Project Students (to be presented in Sem B, 2013/14)

At this stage, most of you should be preparing the project reports for submission on 25 April 2014.  You must refrain from plagiarism, i.e. failure to properly acknowledge the use of another person's work.  Students who have committed plagiarism will be subjected to penalty that includes lowering of grade, course failure, or even termination of study.  In 2008/09, a student was terminated by the University as a result of committing a serious act of academic dishonesty by plagiarizing others' work from the internet in her FYP report.

Important Reminders for Plagiarism Check/ Softcopy/ Hardcopy Report Submission

1.       To help you and your supervisor identify texts copied without acknowledgement, all students MUST submit your reports to the Turnitin System for checking on or before 21 April 2014.

2.       The Turnitin Originality Report may require days to generate. Its printout should be attached into your Project Report in hard copy submitted to the General Office on 25 April 2014.

3.       Failure in submitting your hard copy project report on time (25 April 2014) due to late generation of Turnitin Originality Report actually caused by late submission into the system (21 Apr is softcopy submission cut-off) will lead to penalty imposed that includes lowering of grade or course failure.

 4.       All softcopy submissions should be done online via your CityU’s Blackboard under “Assignment”. You are required to submit your report in both PDF & WORD formats for department’s record and assessment. Similarity index of your report will be generated on the system with your PDF submission.  The system accessible period: 31 March 2014 at 9:00am to 25 April 2014(system closing time for INFE/ECE/CE/BEngEE(Self-financing) will be made in line with the end of respective hardcopy submission sessions).  Students failing to submit either PDF or WORD file to the Blackboard by 25 April 2014 will be subject to penalty that includes lowering of grade or course failure.

 5.       The Turnitin Originality Report will show the Overall Similarity Index and the related copied texts (without acknowledgement) found in your reports, facilitating the supervisors’ and assessors’ judgment on whether you have committed plagiarism. Though unlimited submissions are acceptable by the Turnitin system, please be mindful of the closing time of your programme.

Should you have any queries on the above, please contact the FYP Coordinator Dr S H Leung at 3442 7784.

Submission of Final Year Project Proposals through Staff FYP InfoNet

To: All Undergraduate Students

Dear students,

Further to my e-mails dated 25 Feb and 27 Feb 2014, I would like to encourage students to propose final year projects.  Please note the following types of projects and observe the steps in preparing student-proposed projects as given below:

Types of Projects

The projects of EE Department are derived from four sources, namely, scholarship-based projects, industrial projects, student-proposed projects and the academic staff -proposed projects.

Student-proposed Projects

Among the four types of projects mentioned above, the student-proposed project is the only category which involves students’ initiation.  The purpose of this exercise is to encourage students to apply their experience gained from industry or their creativity to make their final project interesting and stimulating.  Interested students may download Guidelines and Proposal Form from the FYP InfoNet
http://proj.ee.cityu.edu.hk/eefyp/student/stindex.php

Deadline: 21 March 2014, 5:00pm

To ensure the quality of student-proposed projects, course leaders will assess their suitability, especially those projects proposed by students with no industrial experience.

Scholarship-based Projects and Industrial Projects

The scholarship-based and industrial projects are obtained by our academic staff or from the industry via the Department.  The staff concerned will normally select suitable students for these projects.

Academic Staff-proposed Projects

Academic staff of EE department are invited to propose around 6-8 projects for students.  The project list will be uploaded to the InfoNet in week 13, Sem B, 2013/14.

Steps in preparing Student-proposed Projects

Important:  please observe the following:

(1)  Read the Guidelines for Student-proposed Projects http://proj.ee.cityu.edu.hk/eefyp/student/stindex.php

(2)  Fill in the attached Final Year Project Proposal Form if you wish to propose a project and submit to room P1624, EE Laboratory on or before 21 March 2014

(3)  Team Projects are rejected.

FYP Report - Plagiarism Check before hard copy submission on 29 November 2013

To: All Final Year Project Students (to be presented in Sem A, 2013/14)

Dear Students,

At this stage, most of you should be preparing the project reports for submission on 29 November 2013.

  • To help you and your supervisor identify texts copied without acknowledgement, all students MUST submit your reports to the Turnitin System for checking on or before 25 November 2013.

  • The Turnitin Originality Report may require days to generate. Its printout should be attached into your Project Report in hard copy submitted to the General Office on 29 November 2013.

  • Failure in submitting your hard copy project report on time (29 November 2013) due to late generation of Turnitin Originality Report actually caused by late submission into the system (25 Nov is softcopy submission cut-off) will lead to penalty imposed that includes lowering of grade or course failure.

  •  All softcopy submissions should be done online via your CityU’s Blackboard under “Assignment”. You are required to submit one pdf file for generating Turnitin Originality Report and one word file for department’s record and assessment. Turnitin system accessible period: 15 November 2013 at 9:00am to 29 November 2013 (system closing time for INFE/ECE/CE/BEngEE(Self-financing) will be made in line with the end of respective hardcopy submission sessions). A user guide demonstrating the steps for report submission can be found at your Blackboard account. Students failing to submit both pdf and word copies onto the Blackboard by 29 November 2013 will be subject to penalty that includes lowering of grade or course failure.

  • The Turnitin Originality Report will show the Overall Similarity Index and the related copied texts (without acknowledgement) found in your reports, facilitating the supervisors’ and assessors’ judgment on whether you have committed plagiarism. Though unlimited submissions are acceptable by the Turnitin system, please be mindful of the closing time of your programme.

Should you have any queries on the above, please contact the FYP Coordinator Dr Robin Li at 3442 7803.
